Bangladesh officials could stand in Tests Wisden CricInfo staff - August 3, 2001
The ICC are considering allowing Bangladeshi umpires to stand in Test matches according the Bangladesh Cricket Board. BCB director Syed Ashraful Huq said that he had discussed the matter with Sunil Gavaskar, the ICC Cricket Committee chairman, and that the talks had been encouraging. "Although Sunil has indicated approval in principle, the issue has to be adopted unanimously by the Cricket Committee (Playing)," Ashraful said. "If we get the green signal, Bangladesh Test umpires will officiate during the home series against Zimbabwe in November," he said. At present Bangladesh umpires lack the necessary experience but the BCB are hoping to run a course for half-a-dozen local officials in the coming weeks.
