England paceman Andrew Caddick helped accelerate Australia's collapse in the third Ashes Test by exploiting one of captain Steve Waugh's few batting weaknesses.

Caddick said Steve Waugh and brother Mark were the key wickets as Australia slumped from 48 without loss to 105 for seven in reply to England's first innings of 185. "We know Steve has a weakness outside off stump to the lifting ball and I tried to work on that. I got him out in that way four years ago."

Caddick put England's success with the ball down to "sticking to our game plan".

"We knew we had to be patient, keep to our lines and lengths. We also took our catches and that makes a lot of difference," Caddick said. In the first two Tests, England missed 12 catches.

"If you get stuck into them they panic; they're only human," Caddick added.

Glenn McGrath, who took five England wickets for 49 earlier in the day, said they might have learnt from watching Australia bowl. "We bowled a little bit too short to start with. If you did that the ball just sat up and didn't go through at all.

"There was a little bit in the wicket and I felt early on that if I just hit a good length there was enough variation not to do anythingdifferent to that. The overcast conditions also helped the bowlers swing it a bit more.

"I said before this match that I preferred to bowl at Trent Bridge to any other ground in England, even though I've always done well at Lord's."
