Squad of sixteen named Wisden CricInfo staff - August 1, 2001
The Bangladesh Cricket Board has announced that they have trimmed down their squad for the Asian Test Championship to sixteen. Bangladesh have struggled to adapt to the five-day format of Test cricket and with this in mind the national selectors opted for players who they feel are fit enough to last the distance. Mohammed Rafique has been omitted from the squad while Bikash Ranjan Das and Anwar Hossain are called up. Rather surprisingly the selectors made it clear that the strategy of the side will be to play for draws in their matches and admitted that their final eleven will be heavy on batsmen. Bangladesh squad: Naimur Rahman, Javed Omar Belim, Mehrab Hossain, Mohammed Ashraful, Al-Sahariar, Aminul Islam, Habibul Bashar, Akram Khan, Khaled Masud, Mohammed Anwar Hossain, Enamul Hoque, Hasibul Hossain, Bikash Ranjan Das, Manjurul Islam, Mohammed Sharif, Mushfiqur Rahman
