Local hero Gough to help local charities Darren Gough Benefit Media Release - 21 August 2001
Local charities are to gain an unexpected and much welcomed opportunity to boost their fundraising - and it's all thanks to Yorkshire and England cricket star Darren Gough. The Costcutter International Challenge cricket match to be held at Don Valley Stadium on August 30 will give charities the chance to raise money and gain from the additional publicity as part of the Darren Gough Benefit Year. After the day/night match, the players - international cricketers from all over the world - will sign and hand over their shirts to local charities for them to use to raise money. Ian Townsend of the Darren Gough Benefit Committee said: "Darren and the whole Committee believe this is a fantastic opportunity for him to put something back into the local community. "The high-profile event will give charities a great chance to increase their funds and highlight their causes through one of Sheffield's most exciting sporting events this year."
