Shoaib Akhtar's action cleared George Dobell - 24 April 2001
Shoaib Akhtar has been cleared to bowl again following a report by the University of Western Australia into his bowling action.
Although he admitted that they had yet to receive the report on Shoaib's action from the Pakistan Cricket Board, ICC spokesman, Ian Barber, confirmed that they would not seek further assurances in accordance with the ICC procedure, which states: The home Board's bowling advisors review the referee's report and work with the player to correct his action. Within a six-week period the advisors complete and send an assessment report to the ICC. This will be circulated to the player and the ICC panel of umpires and referees. During this period the bowler is allowed to continue playing. Shoaib is currently in Phase One of the reporting process. If he is reported again within the next 12 months the ICC will appoint an advisor to work with the bowler to improve his action. Shoaib had double reason to celebrate today. He was also named in a squad of 20 as one of the probables to tour England starting next month.
