Curtly Ambrose to be honoured in South African game; West Indies announce U19 squad to England Derrick Nicholas - 10 April 2001
Trinidad & Tobago's opening batsman, Daren Ganga, will captain the University of the West Indies Vice Chancellor's XI against South Africa in Monsterrat on Thursday. Among the players on his side will be two Montserratians - Davon Williams and Tyrone Greenaway - along with West Indies batsman Shivnarine Chanderpaul. Retired West Indies fast bowler, Curtly Ambrose, is the honouree in this match and will also be part of the Vice Chancellor's team. The full squad is: Daren Ganga (captain), Ian Bradshaw, Leon Garrick, Davon Williams, Tyrone Greenaway, Junie Mitchum, Sylvester Joseph, Ryan Hinds, Mahendra Nagamootoo, Shivnarine Chanderpaul and Curtly Ambrose. West Indies under 15 cricketer, Lionel Baker, will be the emergency fielder. Meanwhile, Young Jamaican batsman, Brenton Parchment has been appointed captain of the West Indies Under-19 squad on its upcoming tour to England this summer. Windward Islands opener, Devon Smith, has been appointed his vice captain. Sixteen players, including two wicketkeepers (Carlton Baugh Jr. of Jamaica and Patrick Browne of Barbados), have been selected for the trip. The tour runs from 19th July to 1st September and will comprise three four day Tests and four one-day matches.
