Biggest Upset in Premier League; Dhanmondi Floats on Endless Delight
Shahryar Khan - 7 April 2001

A spectacular 131 from Tushar Imran swept giant Mohammadan S.C. away in the Premier League disappointing the latter's innumerable fans in BNS today. Certainly Mohammadan was boastful for it's burly batting order before the game started and they took Dhanmondi rather lightly. They gave the price and lost to three wickets to their mediocre opponents.

It was not beyond imagination that the giant's flow of wins could be obstructed when Minhajul Abedin won the toss and decided to bat first as most batting-based teams often do. The shock reeled the Mohammadan tent more or less when they lost Tikolo for 28. The skipper Minhajul Abedin and Rashedul Haq started to patch up and they were almost successful. Rashedul Haq got himself out of Shahed Mehmood when he was looking invincible. Minhajul Abedin, though made 58, spent too many balls for it. A disastrous tail-collapse forced Mohammedan to be content with a meager 221 all out having fifteen balls to spare. Shahed Mehmood captured 3 wickets for 33 and D.P.Debu picked up 2 for 43 including the vital Tikolo's wicket.

The rest of the match was reserved for Tushar Imran who's brilliant knock astounded the crowd as well as the Mohammedan players when he baffled all their efforts to stop the flood of run. Tushar slammed 16 fours and 5 massive sixes to post his 131 spending only 102 balls. It was quite unexpected because his bat did not smile throughout the tournament. Anisul Hakim made 51 in 79 deliveries providing Tushar a good assistance. There were not much left for the Mohammedan to do except watching Tushar bashing the ball all around the wicket. Taposh Kumar Baiso pitched some hostile deliveries to claim his four wickets giving away 33 runs.
