Franks and Afzaal sign Notts deals to 2002 Press Release - 24 October 2000
Nottinghamshirešs homegrown England A tourists, Usman Afzaal and Paul Franks, have both signed contract extensions which will keep them at Trent Bridge until the end of 2002. Said cricket manager Clive Rice: "Both are exceptionally talented cricketers who have been rightly selected for the A tour as a result of consistent performances this season. "Usman in particular deserves his international recognition after working hard and making great strides forward. "From a pretty dismal start to the season, to come back in the way he did and score more than 1,000 runs was a wonderful performance. "Franks has continued to progress, earned a full England debut this season and has kept himself at the forefront of the selectors' minds. "We are also exceptionally proud that both players have been developed by the Trent Bridge youth system under Mick Newell and with more consistent and effective performances at county level, Išm sure they will be able to contribute when their chances arise in the Test arena." Afzaal, aged 23, topped the Nottinghamshire run charts this season with 1,018 runs at an average of 44.26. Franks averaged 48.67 with the bat in Notts' successful National Cricket League promotion campaign as well as topping the one-day wicket chart with 25. © CricInfo Ltd
