5th Match, ICC Knock Out, Pakistan v Sri Lanka, Statistical Highlights
Rajneesh Gupta - 12 October 2000
It was the 1634th ODI in cricket history.
It was the 84th match between these two sides. The record now reads: Pakistan 52, Sri Lanka 29, tied one and abandoned 2.
It was Pakistan's 480th and Sri Lanka's 331st ODI match.
Umpires David Orchard and Peter Willey stood in their 58th and 20th match respectively.
Mahela Jayawerdene played his 50th innings. He became the 21st Sri Lankan to do so.
Muttiah Muralitharan got a duck for the 14th time in his career. Among the Sri Lankans now only Romesh Kaluwitharana (19), Arjuna Ranatunga (18), Roshan Mahanama (15) and Sanath Jayasuriya (15) have aggregated more ducks than Muralithran.
The duck was Muralitharan's eighth against Pakistan which makes him the batsman with most ducks against Pakistan. The previous record was that of West Indies' Gus Logie who was dismissed without scoring seven times in his 49 appearances against Pakistan.
Saeed Anwar made his 18th century in one-day internationals playing his 210th match and 207th innings. With this Anwar has now moved ahead of West Indies' Desmond Haynes who has a tally of 17 centuries. Now only India's Sachin Tendulkar (25) has scored more ODI hundreds than Saeed Anwar.
The hundred was Anwar's seventh against Sri Lanka- most by any batsman. He was earlier at level with India's Sachin Tendulkar with six hundreds against Sri Lanka.
The hundred was Anwar's second on Kenyan soil (he had made 115 also against Sri Lanka on 04-10-1996). Anwar thus became first batsman to score two hundreds on Kenyan soil.
Anwar has now aggregated 1831 runs in 45 matches against Sri Lanka. He is now only three short of India's Mohammad Azharuddin's record tally of 1834 runs (from 53 matches) against Sri Lanka.
Yousuf Youhana on 10, completed his 1000 runs in the calendar year 2000. He was playing his 37th match and innings. Youhana became the second batsman to do so this year after South Africa's Gary Kirsten who has 1066 runs from 26 matches.
The unbroken partnership of 105 runs for the second wicket was the 23rd century partnership in which Anwar was involved. The break-up: 13 for first wicket, six for second wicket, 3 for third wicket and one for fifth wicket. Only Javed Miandad (25), Inzamam-ul-Haq (25) and Rameez Raja (24) have figured in more century partnerships for Pakistan.
Saeed Anwar won Man of the Match award for the 24th time in his career- the most for Pakistan.
