Malaysian challenge final hit by rain Tony Munro - 23 March 2000
Following two previous abandonments in the preliminary rounds between the two teams, Thursday's final at the Royal Selangor Club was stopped by Kuala Lumpur's notorious afternoon showers. Namibia, replying to Bangladesh 'A's 237-9 from its allotted 50 overs, was struggling at 37-3, its plight worsened by the loss of the wicket of big-hitting opener, Dean Seagar. Players were waiting for showers to stop at the time of writing. Earlier, the Bangladesh 'A' team, containing eight first team players, compiled 237-9 from its 50 overs after a larger total seemed likely. Bangladesh 'A' had sped to 112-3 off 26 overs before the run-rate slowed due to the run-out of in-form captain, Naimur Rahman. His loss, through a misunderstanding with partner, Sanuar Rehman, caused a temporary delay in the acceleration of the run-rate. The tempo increased through an intelligent innings by no. 7 batsman, Mushfiqur Rahman, who struck 55 from 51 balls. His batting was marked by smart running between wickets and waiting for the right ball to hit. First drop Rajin Saleh had earlier hit 52, while Dean Kotze (2-13 from 10 overs) was Namibia's best bowler. © CricInfo 2000
