Indian Juniors welcomed joyfully 29 January 2000
The victorious Indian U-19 team returned to the city this afternoon in the midst of a warm and joyful welcome by the assembled TNCA officials and media persons. To the queries from the press about the attributes to the victory in Sri Lanka, the Indian under-19 team manager Mr Roger Binny said: "I think the boys played a very mature game. They played a fantastic cricket and all credit to them. They stood up to all pressures and did exceptionally well when the odds were against them.” More over, he added in trying to single out any bright spot in the Indian performances "They did a fantastic job. I think it was a great team work, But individually if I had single out somebody it would have to be Sodhi, I am indeed very delighted that our young boys really did well, and there is a tremendous future for India." The captain of this side Mohammad Kaif attributed this success to the team coach and that he had done a great job and that's why they had won the trophy. Asked about the fortunes of the senior team, he said "I can't say about my seniors, they are just putting in their efforts." He did not forget to give the give the full credit to his manager and the coach, saying "I am really happy because our team has really won the World Cup, it's really great - I think Binny did a fantastic job. He was a motivating factor behind the team..... actually it was really attributed to him that we have won the World Cup. He really did a tremendous job “I think everybody performed really well, We can't single out anybody, it was a combined effort. I think most of the credit goes to our team manager and Mr Binny.
