Ganguly banned for final match of series
Staff and agencies - 12 December 2000

Indian skipper Sourav Ganguly, after a stunning man of the match performance in the fourth one-day international against Zimbabwe, got a severe rap on the knuckles yesterday from match referee Barry Jarman. Jarman suspended him for one match with immediate effect following reports from umpires CK Sathe and Devender Sharma, meaning he will miss the final match of the series. Both he and wicket-keeper Vijay Dahiya were reported for violations of the ICC Code of Conduct. Jarman, after reviewing video tape, found them guilty of showing dissent, attempting to intimidate the umpires, and bringing the game into disrepute. It is believed the incidents that brought about the report related to excessive appealing and dissatisfaction with the results of three successive lbw appeals against Mluleki Nkala. Ganguly, in addition to the one-match suspension, received a suspended ban of two further matches, whilst Dahiya receives a one-match suspended ban. No financial penalties were imposed.
