Hyderabad set to close out match tomorrow
27 November 1999
Hyderabad's spin twins, Kanwaljit Singh and Venkatapathy Raju, spun rings around the Kerala batsmen at the REC Ground in Kozhikode today to put their side within sniffing distance of victory. Kanwaljit took 5-63, for a match haul of 11-154, as Kerala's challenge was snuffed out for 179 in their second innings. Raju was the perfect foil as he cleaned up the tail, taking 4 of the last 5 wickets to fall to finish with 4-77. His match haul was 7-179. Hyderabad, chasing 124 for victory, were 51-1 at close with Nandakishore and Vinay Kumar on 15 each.
Resuming on Day 3 at 250-8, Hyderabad were all out for 303. The 9th wicket stand between Vanka Pratap (56) and NP Singh (59) which began at 211 and progressed beyond Kerala's 1st innings 247 was finally terminated at 286. Sreekumar Nair (3-56) took both the wickets to fall today. Kerala were all out in the 62nd over after a disastrous middle order collapse from 82-2 had seen them lose 6 wickets in 7.1 overs for the addition of 20 runs. M Suresh Kumar, batting at No. 9, was last out after making 61 in 59 balls with 9 4's and a six.
