Kalsi hands Railways the initiative
OP Sharma - 17 November 1999

Udaipur: MRF trainee S.S. Kalsi's devastating bowling put visitors Railways in a strong position against Rajasthan in the three day Cooch Behar Trophy league match which began at the MB College ground here yesterday.

Rajasthan captain Anup Dave won the toss and elected to bat first on a true batting wicket. But they lost six wickets before lunch as the Railways medium pacer SS Kalsi, tore into their top order. In three spells before lunch he took four quick wickets that put Rajasthan under tremendous pressure.

For Rajasthan last man Kishan Choudhary was the highest scorer for the team with 27. He and wicketkeeper D.Yagnik added 34 crucial runs for the last wicket. Surendra Singh mopped up the tail to finish with four wickets. The Rajasthan innings folded up fifteen minutes before tea for 160 in 63.3 overs.

In reply Railways also lost two quick wickets. Sriram Yadav after hitting five fours was caught at slip and Surendra Singh was trapped leg before, both off Kishan Choudhary. At close of play Railways were 55-2 in 25 overs.
