Kaypee hits his 27th Ranji century

Gurgaon: An unbeaten 108 by veteran Amarjeet Kaypee and a five wickets haul by Feroz Ghyas had Services facing the follow-on on the second day of the four day North Zone Ranji Trophy league match aginst Haryana at the Nehru stadium here on Sunday.

In reply to Haryana's first innings score of 502 for four declared, Services could muster only 100 runs in 29.4 overs in their first innings and after following on they were struggling at 31 for one when the stumps were drawn.

Earlier, resuming at 266 for one, Haryana lost overnight batsman Jatinder Singh for the addtion of 14 runs. He could add only 8 runs to his individual score as he was caught by Sarajeet Singh off M.V.Rao at 280. Then Amarjit Kaypee joined the othernight batsman Parender Sharma (53) who completed his half century with the help of six hits to the fence before he was caught by Sarabjeet Singh off Pankaj Maitry with the total at 330.

After the departure of skipper Parander Sharma, Rajesh Puri joined Kaypee and the two raised a 172 run fouth wicket stand before he fell to Maitrey, caught by Harish Bhaskar. They carried the the total to 502 for six. Puri contributed 87 runs with seven boundaries and three sixes in his 87 minutes at the crease facing just 80 balls.

However, Kaypee, who has the distinction of scoring the maximum runs in the national championship, completed his 27th century while playing the 158th innings of his 107th Ranji match and remained not out at 108. He hit 10 boundaries in 150 minutes batting facing 120 balls before Parender Sharma declared the innings at the fall of Puri's wicket. Pankaj Maitrey took two wickets for 108 runs while M.V.Rao and Sachin Kulkarni shared a wicket each.

In reply, Services began their first essay disastrously, losing Harish Bhaskar (0) for two and then sliding to 21 for four. Only four of the batsmen could reach double figures, with K.K Dixit (36) top scoring as Feroz Ghyas (5 for 39) and Vineet Jain (3 for 32) ran through their batting line up. Pradeep Jain and Sanjay Jakhar also shared a wicket each.

Ghyas struck again in the visitor's second innings, removing K K Dixit for a duck at ten before they reached 31 without any more damage.
