Wisden CricInfo staff - January 1, 1999

At Sinhalese Sports Club, Colombo, January 22. Sri Lanka won by five wickets. Toss: Sri Lanka.

Leg-spinner Chandana justified his selection ahead of batsman Mahela Jayawardene by returning career-best figures of four for 31 to set up a comfortable victory. Sent in first, Zimbabwe were bowled out in the 49th over. Guy Whittall scored 52 off 70 balls, but the rest were tied down by spin. In reply, Jayasuriya and Atapattu hurried to 66 in 14 overs, paving the way for Ranatunga to put the finishing touches with an unbeaten fifty. He passed the target with his second six, hit over mid-wicket.

Man of the Match: A. Ranatunga.
