SRI LANKA v INDIA
Wisden CricInfo staff - January 1, 1999

At R. Premadasa Stadium, Colombo, August 20 (day/night). Sri Lanka won by seven wickets. Toss: Sri Lanka.

Sri Lanka ensured victory in the series with this comfortable win. Despite a century from Ganguly, his first in one-day internationals, India totalled only 238. They slumped from 212 for four to lose their last six for 26 runs to the spinners. Muralitharan, when he claimed Ganguly's wicket, became the second Sri Lankan (following Jayasuriya) to take 100 wickets in one-day internationals. Jayasuriya once more set the tone for Sri Lanka's reply, with a 56-ball 66, and further half-centuries from Mahanama and Aravinda de Silva saw Sri Lanka to their target in the 42nd over.

Man of the Match: S. T. Jayasuriya.
