INDIA v NEW ZEALAND 1997-98 Wisden CricInfo staff - January 1, 1999
At R. Premadasa Stadium, Colombo, June 23 (day/night). No result: Toss India. Fleming's team were in the firing line again when their 219 for eight – only Astle got to 50 – was put into perspective by Tendulkar and Azharuddin. Tendulkar raced to his fifty off 33 balls, and Azharuddin had reached a run-a-ball 53. But with India comfortably placed on 131 for two, the heavens opened. Twenty-five overs – another four balls – would have had to be bowled for a result to stand. Incredibly, India would have been declared losers; the rules for interrupted matches stated that they needed 147 from 25 overs. © Wisden CricInfo Ltd |
