SOUTH AFRICA v SRI LANKA 1997-98 Wisden CricInfo staff - January 1, 1999
At Johannesburg, April 5. South Africa won by 57 runs. Toss: South Africa. Left-handed opener Rindel set up South Africa's innings, sharing half-century stands with Kirsten and Klusener, and Rhodes kept up the momentum with a brisk 43 from 51 balls. A target of 5.4 an over was not beyond Sri Lanka's celebrated line-up, especially while Jayasuriya was adding a quickfire 65 with De Silva. Jayasuriya hit six fours and one six, interspersed with a couple of chances, but, once Cronje broke the stand, the innings fell apart. Crookes and Telemachus cleaned up the lower order, though last man Muralitharan denied Telemachus a hat-trick. Man of the Match: R. Telemachus. Attendance: 30,630. © Wisden CricInfo Ltd |
