SOUTH AFRICA v PAKISTAN 1997-98
Wisden CricInfo staff - January 1, 1999

At Durban, April 3 (day/night), South Africa won by 52 runs. Toss: South Africa. International debuts: S. Elworthy, R. Telemachus.

Kallis and Rhodes combined at 97 for four to set South Africa on the road to victory. Kallis scored 109 from 114 balls and Rhodes 94 from 95; their unbroken stand of 183 was a South African record for the fifth wicket. Then debutants Steve Elworthy and Roger Telemachus, sharing the new ball because Donald and Pollock were absent, put the skids under Pakistan's top order, who collapsed to 75 for seven. The last three wickets trebled the score. Moin Khan and Wasim Akram added 53, while Abdur Razzaq and Waqar Younis put on 72 for the last wicket, but they had been left too much to do. Razzaq's unbeaten 46 was the highest score by a No. 10 in one-day internationals.

Man of the Match: J. H. Kallis. Attendance: 21,162.
