NEW ZEALAND v SOUTH AFRICA Wisden CricInfo staff - January 1, 1999
At Adelaide, December 6 (day/night). New Zealand won by 47 runs. Toss: South Africa. The last of Australia's five great grounds having finally got lit up, Adelaide's first day/night international delivered an upset, with New Zealand securing their first win in nine matches of a hitherto tormented tour. South Africa, brimming with adrenalin and passion against Australia, could not reach the same emotional high against lesser opposition. New Zealand had three batting heroes – Cairns halted an early wobble with 55 off 54 balls, while youngster McMillan, with 86, and all-rounder Harris shared a stand of 124. Then each of New Zealand's six-man seam attack chipped in to bowl South Africa out for 177. Man of the Match: C. D. McMillan. Attendance: 9,642. © Wisden CricInfo Ltd |
