SOUTH AFRICA v WEST INDIES Wisden CricInfo staff - January 1, 1999
At Lahore, November 3 (day/night). South Africa won by five wickets. Toss: South Africa. South Africa made light work of what had seemed a formidable West Indies total of 293 for eight. Kirsten laid the foundations with 64 and, after they slipped to 81 for three, Cronje helped him add 112. Cronje was out for a run-a-ball 94 but a frantic 53 off 39 balls by Rhodes sealed the win. Struggling to control the slippery ball, West Indies conceded 11 wides and 13 no-balls. Earlier, Hooper scored his fourth one-day international century, off 101 balls, to lead a fluent batting display. Lara hit another delightful half-century, flavoured with ten fours and a six, which carried him past 5,000 runs, while Chanderpaul's 47 took just 40 balls. Man of the Match: W. J. Cronje. © Wisden CricInfo Ltd |
