SRI LANKA v WEST INDIES
Wisden CricInfo staff - January 1, 1999

At Lahore, November 1 (day/night). Sri Lanka won by seven wickets. Toss: Sri Lanka. International debut: R. N. Lewis.

Sri Lanka coasted home with 10.2 overs to spare, thanks to an unbeaten stand of 171 between Mahanama and Ranatunga. It was a record for Sri Lanka's fourth wicket in limited-overs internationals: Mahanama hit 94 off 112 balls, and Ranatunga 87 off 90 balls. Given a bigger target, both could have reached centuries. West Indies' top order paced their innings well: Lara added a cautious 82 with Chanderpaul and a run-a-ball 74 with Hooper. But then five wickets fell for 16 runs. Vaas claimed his 100th wicket in one-day internationals when he removed Simmons.

Man of the Match: A. Ranatunga.
