Punjab dismiss Orissa on opening day

In a three day quarter final of the Cooch Behar Trophy at the Telco Club Ground in Jamshedpur, Punjab were 53-1 at stumps after having dismissed Orissa for 250 in 70.2 overs. The Orissa innings was founded upon a 85 run 4th wicket stand between Baliar Singh (55) and Nilanjan Behera (71). S Mohanty was unbeaten on 42 after leading a tailend rally that produced 71 runs for the last two wickets. For Punjab, Sandeep Sanwal was the most successful bowler with 4-85. After losing opener Manish Sharma for 4 in the 7th over, RS Ricky (16 not out) and captain Yuvraj Singh (21 not out), who scored a century in the Ranji Trophy this season against Haryana, took Punjab safely through to stumps.
