Sri Lanka's International Cricket Council (ICC) match referee Ranjan Madugalle will be one of two referees officiating at the Wills international cricket tournament (mini World Cup) in Dhaka from October 24 to November 1.

Madugalle along with the other ICC match referee for the tournament, Raman Subba Row of England, will have two newly appointed referees under them familiarising themselves with the task.

Former Indian batsman and national selector Gundappa Viswanath and Ibrahim Isaac of South Africa are the new additions to the panel. They will be understudy to Madugalle and Subba Row in Dhaka before they are given an assignment.

The ICC have also appointed a six-member panel of umpires for the tournament comprising, David Shepherd and Peter Willey (both England), Steve Bucknor (West Indies), Srini Venkatraghavan (India), Steve Dunne (New Zealand) and David Orchard (South Africa).

World champions Sri Lanka along with the other eight full-members are participating in the eight-day tournament to raise funds for the development of ICC associate-member countries.

After completing his assignment in Dhaka, Madugalle will fly to Pakistan to officiate as match referee for the three one-day internationals at Karachi (November 6), Peshawar (November 8) and Lahore (November 10) against Australia.

However, his most demanding task will be in South Africa when he goes there on November 22 to officiate in the five-Test series against West Indies beginning on November 26 at Johannesburg.

This will be the first time Madugalle goes to South Africa either as player or official. He is certain to make the most of it because South Africa is generally used as an example of a country with excellent cricket administration.

Previously he has officiated two Test series involving South Africa (v Pakistan and v Australia) and also the time-honoured 'Ashes' Test series between England and Australia.
