Sachin Tendulkar on the verge of another record

When he scores the first run in his next innings (hopefully against West Indies in the Wills Cup semi-final on Saturday!), Sachin Tendulkar will reach another landmark - he will break his own world record of scoring most runs in a calendar year in Limited Overs International matches. So far, Sachin has scored 1611 runs in 27 innings at an astonishing average of 64.44 at more than run a ball in 1998. He had made exactly the same number of runs two years back.

In fact, Sachin has now crossed the mark of 1000 runs in three successive calendar years, which is another world record. Sachin first made over 1000 runs in a calendar year in 1994 and then did so again in 1996 and 1997 prior to the current year; 1995 did not give him enough scope: he played only 12 innings.

Table (A) shows the list of players scoring the most number of runs in a calendar year; Table (B) shows Sachin's performance in each calendar year.
