Sri Lanka umpire B. C. Cooray will be replaced in the National Grid International Umpires panel by Peter Manuel.

The Sri Lanka Cricket Board took this decision after studying the various reports which the International Cricket Council (ICC) had submitted to them over a period of two years.

Cooray officiated in 14 Tests and in nearly 50 one-day internationals. He will however continue to officiate in international matches in Sri Lanka.

K. T. Francis who has been in the international panel with Cooray since its inception in February 1994 is retained for another year.

Manuel, a former Sara trophy cricketer, who represented BRC has officiated in Tests and one-day internationals.

The Cricket Board has to make its recommendations to the ICC before May 1. These recommendations will be ratified at the annual ICC meeting at Lord's in June.

Meanwhile, the Cricket Board in its bid to restructure the entire system in the country will advertise for a full time director of umpiring.

The appointment of sub-committees too in future will be made by the elected executive committee and not at the annual general meeting, as is the practice at present. - (S.T.)
