Defending champions St. Leonard’s Boys’ yesterday crashed to defeat in the CIBC Schools’ League cricket competition for the first time in three seasons.
Their conquerors were Combermere, who won a hard-fought match by eight runs on home soil.
Sent in on a softish pitch, Combermere recovered to make 123 for nine off 28 overs and then restricted their opponents to 115.
The in-form Ryan Hinds hit the top score of 33, but four wickets to off-spinner Rohan Nurse turned the match in Combermere’s favour.
It was the third win in as many matches for Combermere who are playing in Zone ``B''.
Foundation and Lodge also maintained their 100 per cent winning records. Foundation beat Harrison College by nine wickets in a Zone ``C'' match at College, while Lodge defeated Garrison by 69 runs despite a century fromNo. 3 batsman Damian Harte.
Harte made 105, but the visitors, chasing a big target of 277 in 35 overs, were restricted to 207 for seven.
The day’s other century was struck by Ellerslie’s Jason Parris, who hit 106 in his team’s commanding victory by 145 runs over St. Michael at Martindales Road.
