BCB names squad - 'A' team goes to Singapore May 27

Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) yesterday announced a 17-member Bangladesh A team for a three-match one-day series against Singapore starting from May 28.

Former national captain Faruque Ahmed will lead the second string national side which includes 14 cricketers and three officials. This is for the first time Faruque has been recalled to lead any BCB selection since he led Bangladesh A against MCC a few years back.

Harunur Rashid, the balding Kalabagan opener, has been named as Faruque's deputy for the tour in which Bangladesh will play their first match on May 28. The second match against fellow ICC associate member will be held on May 30 while the last match is scheduled for the following day.

The team will leave for Singapore on May 27.

Former national left-arm seamer Dipu Roy Choudhury has been appointed coach of the team. A S M Ali Khabir, a BCB vice-president, will be the manager with Sheikh Nizamuddin, who masterminded the success of the Saber-led panel in the recently concluded election of the Board, will act as the associate manager.

The fourteen players have been asked to report coach Roy at the Dhaka Stadium at 3 pm today.

The squad: Faruque Ahmed (captain), Harunur Rashid (vice-captain), Al-Shahriar, Azam Iqbal, Golam Mortuza, Habibul Bashar, Shafiuddin Ahmed, Zakir Hasan, Fahim Muntasir, Sajjad Ahmed, Tanveerul Islam Khan, Niamur Rashid, Ridwan Hasan and Khandkar Nasirul Islam.
