Indika gets 157 in follow-on
DEBARAWEWA National School figured in two drawn inter-school cricket matches recently. The first match against Devananda MV turned out to be a high-scoring affair, even though Devananda had forced to follow-on.
Debarawewa, batting first, made 270. Then Devananda made 168 and following-on, made 383 for 6 wickets declared and Debarawewa, in their second turn made 16 for 2 wickets. H. Indika of Devananda made 157 in the second innings when they followed on.
In the second match, Debarawewa National School drew with Rahula College Matara at Debarawewa National School grounds.
A fine century by Buddhika Kumarasinghe (106) highlighted the match. He was again among the runs in the second innings - 59 in the Debarawewa NS score of 200 for 5 wickets. In the second innings, Geeth Gamage top-scored for Debarawewa with 86.
Royal Panadura make valiant effort but fail

ROYAL Panadura set to make 183 runs to win made a valiant attempt but failed, making 105 for no loss in their 7th 'Big Match' against St. John's, Panadura on the Municipal grounds at Panadura yesterday.
St. John's made 179 in their first innings, while Royal, replied with 160 for 8 declared. In their second turn, St. John's declared at 173 for 7 leaving Royal to make 183 to win.
Royal's openers - skipper Chamara Silva and Manjula Perera were in top form with the former unbeaten on 61 with six boundaries and a six, while the latter was unbeaten on 34.
St. John's 179 and 173 for 7 declared (Kasun Niroshan 46, Charith Buddhika 51, T. P. Thenuwara 28, Chamara Silva 2 for 60, Wasantha Hemal 2 for 27, Lakmal Pradeep 2 for 20).
Royal (84 for 3 overnight contd) 160 for 8 declared (Manjula Perera 20, Udesh Indika 4 for 42, Thilanga Sudarshana 3 for 36) and 105 for no loss at close (Chamara Silva not out 61, Manjula Perera not out 34).
St. Servatius in strong position
St. Servatius are in a strong position after first day's play in their big match against St. Thomas, Matara which began yesterday at Uyanwatta Esplanade.
After bundling the Thomians out for 137 in 51 overs, St. Servatius replied with 98 runs for the loss of 3 wickets when the bad light ended the play with 9 overs to be bowled.
St. Sylvester's win by an innings and 47 runs

MEDIUM PACER Ranga Dissanayake, with a match bag of 11 for 82 bowled St. Sylvester's College to an innings and 47 runs win over Vidyartha College in their 40th ``Battle of the Babes'' with 16 overs to spare at the Asgiriya Stadium yesterday.
With this win, the Sylvestrians retained the Rev. Fr. Dom George Trophy for the 15th time to go 15-up in the series against 3 by Vidyartha.
