Bandarawela Thomians qualify for 2nd round

ST. THOMAS' College Bandarawela emerged Badulla District champions and
qualified for the second round in their under 15 Horlicks Trophy
cricket tournament when they beat Dharmadutha College, Badulla played
recently at the Badulla Esplanade. D. N. Jayasooriya once again
excelled with his bat and scored 74 runs and enabled STC Bandarawela
to declare their innings at 219 for 5. Jayasooriya also scored a
century against STC Gurutalawa. In reply, Dharmadutha were able to
score 157 with Gihan Indika once again top scoring for the side with
64 runs.
Batting for the second time, it looked like STC were going to lose the
game when they were 16 for 6 wickets, but Sashika Pandula (30) came to
the rescuer and at close of play they were 87 for 8.
STC Bandarwela 219 for 5 (Romesh Karunrnyake 22, D. N. Jayasooriya 74,
Asanga Wijesinghe 55, Isuru Fernando 27) and 87 for 8 (Sashika Pandula
30, D. J. Jayasooriya 13 n.o., M. Shifan 14, Eranga Gihan 3 for 21,
Ashard Mohamed 2 for 16).
Dharmadutha College 157 (Nandana Sampath 21, Gihan Indika 64, Sampath
Senadeera 3 for 30, D. N. Jayasooriya 2 for 5).
