The President of the Women's Cricket Association of Sri Lanka, Gwen Herat speaking at the women's cricket coaching camp said: 'We are ready not only to take up the challenge to win the Women's World Cup 2000 but to keep on improving the game and laying a solid foundation for the future of women's cricket. I see a tremendous future for them and it will not be long when we shall eclipse our male counterparts. So, we have to catch them young. The girls not only have to play good cricket but they must know the rules, laws, technicalities as well as maintain good health, regular exercise, discipline, etc.
``It is not a bed of roses as we have a long way to go. Remember that we are professional with our entry into the International Women's Cricket Council as a full member. We have also qualified to play in the World Cup 2000. So, in a short time, we have reached the top and we have to maintain and keep on improving so that with confidence we can take up the challenge.''
Mrs. Herat thanked Mr. Wilfred Fernando for coaching the girls of Puttalam District that have exceeded one hundred and promised to find another coach to assist him.
