Leagues say no to Premier idea

THE Confederation of Cricket Leagues are believed to have given a firm thumbs down to any revival in the controversial Premier League issue.

All the county's major leagues were at Haslingden last night for the latest meeting of the confederation, set up as a response to the bid to force a new Premier League on each county.

But, while it is understood that they once more came out strongly against the Lancashire Cricket Board establishing such a set-up by drawing leading clubs from existing leagues, there was no statement afterwards.

The confederation are insisting that they will contact Lancashire first as a matter of courtesy, probably over the weekend, to inform them of any decisions taken last night.

Once Lancashire have been put in the picture, the confederation intend to make their statement public.

But it seems certain that the confederation's message will be a resounding - possibly even unanimous - ``No'' to the LCB's idea of a new Premier League.
