Lancashire weather threat

Lancashire's Championship challenge is being threatened by a familiar adversary - the weather.

The first day of their crucial clash with second-placed Leicestershire at Old Trafford was a complete washout and today's start was delayed.

Meanwhile leaders Surrey bowled out Sussex for 125 as it stayed dry at The Oval.

Lancashire have now lost 1,321 overs in the Championships this season - the equivalent of 12 and a half days, out of a maximum 37.

Leicestershire have suffered even more, losing 1,366 overs.

And a poor forecast was threatening to add to that tally today.

Lancashire's second team match against Derbyshire was also affected by rain yesterday. Lancashire extended their first innings to 352-8 declared, with skipper Peter Sleep ending unbeaten on 136 and Derbyshire reached 6-1 in reply.
