Padmore, Tarrant take Cement titles

Padmore All-Age won their third Carib Cement title, while Tarrant Primary captured a first after victories in the National finals at Melbourne Oval yesterday.

A fine all-round performance from Howard Hamilton steered Padmore of St. Andrew to a 35-run win over New Hope All-Age of Westmoreland. Scores: Padmore All-Age 172 for 2 off 35 overs; New Hope 137 off 35 overs.

Sent into bat, Padmore, with an unbeaten 102 from Hamilton reached a challenging total losing just two wickets. The century was the first scored in the final of the six-year competition. Opening batsman Kemar Brown made 35.

In their reply New Hope were bowled out 35 runs short of their target. David Powell got 36 not out against Rodrick Swaby with two for nine off six overs, Forrest 2 for 15 off seven overs and Hamilton 2 for 24 off seven overs.

In the Primary school final, an unbeaten half century from opening batsman Omar Reynolds and a five-wicket haul by Ricardo Blake pushed Tarrant Primary of St. Andrew to victory.

Scores: Tarrant Primary 85 for seven off 20 overs (Reynolds 51 not out; Alfred Rattray 3 for 13 off 5 overs, Rohan Franklyn 2 for 20 off 4 overs); Friendship Primary 72 off 19.5 overs (Andrew Williams 17, Kirk Johnson 13; Blake 5 for 24 off 5 overs, Steve Logan 2 for 14 off 5 overs.
