Compensation 'complex'

Canterbury cricket officials are continuing to seek compensation after a Shell Cup match was cancelled at Lancaster Park last December.

Solicitors for the Canterbury Cricket Association and Victory Park Board -- administrators of the park -- are meeting today over the compensation issue.

The Canterbury-Northern Districts cup match was cancelled on December 30 after the wicket was left uncovered, and was affected by rain before the game.

Award-winning groundsman Russell Wylie was suspended after the incident. He subsequently resigned.

Canterbury Cricket Association chief executive Tony Murdoch said the compensation issue had become ``a little more complex'' than anticipated. ``It's dragged on for a range of reasons but we are hopeful of reaching a resolution.''

Victory Park Board general manager Campbell Prentice said talks were ``reasonably amiable'' although ``I wouldn't say we are close together''.
