SOUTH AFRICA v INDIA Wisden CricInfo staff - January 1, 1998
At East London, February 4 (day/night). South Africa won by six wickets. Toss: India. India's latest opening pair, Ganguly and Dravid, gave India an excellent platform by putting on 117. But the middle order lost their way, with Tendulkar hitting to mid-wicket and Azharuddin bowled by Donald. Only Robin Singh, with 32 off 22 balls, got them to 232. Kirsten scored an assured 82, which settled the innings nicely, and, though the win did not come until the final over, South Africa were always in control of the asking-rate. Having completed the group stage with six straight wins, they had a week to rest before the final. Men of the Match: S. C. Ganguly and G. Kirsten. Attendance: 15,242. © Wisden CricInfo Ltd |
