NEW ZEALAND v PAKISTAN Wisden CricInfo staff - January 1, 1998
At Sharjah, November 15. Pakistan won by 41 runs. Toss: New Zealand. The Champions Trophy was within New Zealand's grasp when their attack, despite lacking its spearhead of Morrison and Doull, bowled out Pakistan for 160. Saeed Anwar failed for once and Pakistan's best effort came from Salim Malik, with 40, though Moin Khan hit three sixes near the end. In reply, only two New Zealanders reached double figures. Their chase seemed to be progressing smoothly at 66 for one, stumbled when Parore was out in the 20th over and collapsed when Greatbatch went at 98, just after completing his fifty. The last seven wickets fell for 21 in 51 balls; Wasim Akram finished with three and the spinners picked up two each. Man of the Match: Wasim Akram. Man of the Series: Waqar Younis. © Wisden CricInfo Ltd |
