INDIA v PAKISTAN
Wisden CricInfo staff - January 1, 1998

At Toronto, September 21. Pakistan won by 97 runs. Toss: India.

Before a 5,000-strong crowd, the only full house of the series, Pakistan drew level for the second time. On a fresh pitch, Ijaz Ahmed scored a fine 90 – in 110 balls, with seven fours and a six – and Inzamam made a sparkling 40 before, as so often, he was run out. They had almost doubled the score from an uncertain 91 for four and Pakistan finished on a high of 258; Srinath and Prasad conceded a combined 102 in their 19 overs. Wasim Akram fired out the Indian openers, Saqlain Mushtaq tied down the middle order with three for nine in seven overs, and Waqar Younis ensured there were no late heroics.

Man of the match: Ijaz Ahmed.
