WEST INDIES v INDIA Wisden CricInfo staff - January 1, 1998
At Bridgetown, May 3. West Indies won by ten wickets. Toss: West Indies. Walsh and Ambrose skilfully exploited the initial life in the pitch to remove Ganguly and Tendulkar in the first five overs. India never fully recovered, despite Jadeja's enterprising 68 and Azharuddin's first convincing innings of the tour. On a pitch that became ideal for strokeplay in the hot sunshine, Chanderpaul and Williams completed victory in an unbroken stand of 200, a West Indies first-wicket record in one-day internationals. Chanderpaul reached his first hundred at this level on the same ground where he had scored his maiden Test hundred five weeks earlier. He made 109 off 134 balls, with a six and 15 fours, to clinch the series 3-1 and take the Man of the Series award including both Tests and one-day internationals. Man of the Match: S. Chanderpaul.
