Tharaka, Priyantha help Kandy CC By S.M. Jiffrey Abdeen - Kandy South Group Corr A brilliant knock of 106 not out by Tharaka Jayasekera (13 fours) and a bemusing spell of left arm spin bowling by Priyantha Weragoda who captured a match bag of 8 for 51 helped Kandy Cricket Club to post their third outright win of the season when they beat Navy Sports Club by 178 runs in the segment B of P. Sara trophy cricket tournament match concluded at Navy grounds, Welisara on Sunday.

Navy were set a victory target of 362 and they were all out for 224.

Kandy CC 195 all out in 51 overs (C. Ajireen 29, K. Gunawardena 17, A. Ruhunuhewa 32, I. Kulatunga 50, I. Liyanage 16 not out, A. Perera 4 for 49, N. Gunawardena 3 for 48) and 296 all out in 82.5 overs (N. Jayatillake 22, K. Gunawardena 23, A. Ruhunuhewa 22, S. Weerasiri 65, Tharaka Jayasekera 106 not out, K. Perera 3 for 88, M. Gunaratne 3 for 62, N. Dissanayake 3 for 48).

The inter-school cricket match between Moratu Maha Vidyalaya and Piliyandala Madya Maha Vidyalaya ended in an exciting finish at Moratuwa recently.

Set to make 126 runs for the victory Moratuwa boys were 121 for the loss of nine wickets at the close. Oshanda Warnapura scored 57 for the home team and T. A. Weerasinghe 67 for visitors.

A stylish century from C. Zoysa (112) for Dharmasoka was the highlight of the first-day play in their inter-school match which began at Pannipitiya, yesterday.

Mahinda College by 29 runs

Mahinda College, Galle, scored a 29-run win over St. Anne's College, Kurunegala, in their Coca Cola Trophy cricket tournament match played at Galle.

Mahinda College, 92 all out. (D. Munasinghe 26, R. P. Kumara 26.

Thusara 2 for 26 and 84 for all out (L. Udugamsuriya 20, D. Munasinghe 17, S. Jayawardana 3 for 15).

St. Anne's College 43 all out. (P. Rangana 12, T. Rupasinghe 6 for 13). And 104 all out.

Hemantha, Ranga see Sylvestrians to victory

Jiffrey Abdeen, Kandy south group correspondent) Excellent bowling by skipper and medium pacer Hemantha Wimalawickrema (match bag of 9 for 55) and spinner Ranga Dissanayake (7 for 55) helped St. Sylvester's College to score their third win of the season when they beat Carey College, Colombo, by an innings and 49 runs in their Coca Cola Bottlers trophy schools under-19 cricket tournament match played in Colombo.

Apart from this Ranga Dissanayake scored a quick 76 which included 9 fours and 2 sixes and that ever consistent Chanaka Wijesinghe scored a brisk 62 in only 68 deliveries with 9 hits to the ropes and one over it.

Carey College 90 all out in 44 overs 170 mts. (T. Zuhair 11, M. Thusanka 18, S. Ferdinands 20, Ranga Dissanayake 4 for 37, C. Bandara 2 for 19, H. Wimalawickrema 4 for 19) and 144 all out in 52.3 overs 211 mis (S. C. Withanage 68, V. Bandara 17, S. de Silva 13, R. Dissanayake 3 for 48, H. Wimalawickrema 5 for 36, C. Bandara 2 for 37).
