The England and Wales Cricket Board is looking to secure major sponsorship
in the coming months for the new National League to be launched in 1999.
"We are looking to introduce a totally fresh presentation for the 50-over
County game." said Marketing Director Terry Blake.
"The new one-day National League with its two divisions, the added
excitement of promotion and relegation and the opportunities for televised
floodlit games, make it a hugely exciting prospect for a new commercial
partner as cricket reaches out to attract new audiences. Once our television
negotiations get underway we will develop a detailed strategy."
The current Sunday League sponsor, AXA, have chosen not to sign up for the
National League. Added Blake: "We have very much enjoyed working with AXA
over the past six years and they have contributed much to the game. We look
forward to a final flourish for the AXA League in 1998."
