The ban was ordered by the Cardiff Crown Court, which heard the case against the Pakistani fast bowler who also plays for Glamorgan.
Waqar Younis was fined 300 pounds sterling and ordered to pay 40 pounds towards the cost of the case..
The court heard that the Pakistani cricketer was stopped on June 23 at 3.00 a.m. while driving his MG car on Cowbridge Road West in Cardiff.
The Prosecutor said the car was stopped by police as it was moving at 10 miles an hour in a 30-mile speed zone. Alcohol was smelt and he was asked to take a road-side test. It proved positive. The reading was 92mg in 100ml of blood against the legal limit of 80mg per 100ml.
The defence lawyer said Younis had been out of the game for some time. He signed a 200,000 pounds deal with Glamorgan in 1996 but has been dogged by injury. On that particular night he was taken out by friends to cheer him up. The court was further informed that he had stopped drinking three hours before but had not eaten.
