Badulla District beat Moneragala District by 56 runs

A sparkling 82 by Udara Dhanthanarayana enabled Badulla District to beat Moneragala District in their inter-district under 15 cricket encounter played at the Badulla Esplanade recently.

Three teams, namely Badulla, Moneragala and Ampara are participating in this tournament organised by the Board of Control for Cricket in Sri Lanka. The champions in Region 5 will qualify for the second round in this tournament.

Badulla, batting first, scored 268 runs in 49 overs. Dhanthanarayana's 82 included twelve 4s ably supported by Gihan Indika who scored half century.

In reply, Moneragala district were all out for 212 runs in 41 overs, when D. H. Jayasooriya captured 4 wickets for 50 runs while D. Ratnayake took 3 for 35. V. L. Samarasinghe and C. Bandara scored half centuries for Moneragala District.

Dhanthanarayana helps Badulla District win by 5 wickets

A superb unbeaten century by Udara Dhanthanarayana enabled Badulla District to beat Ampara District by five wickets and enter the second round of their under 15 Badulla Region inter-league cricket encounter tourney. The match was played at the Badulla Esplanade on August 11.

Ampara District batting first, scored 219 runs in 49 overs with P. Silva (49) and S. M. Nuwan (42) top scoring.

In replay, Badulla scored the required runs in 32 overs losing only 5 wickets. Udara Dhanthanarayana who scored 82 runs against Moneragala District, was unbeaten with 100 runs with 13 fours.

Battle of Hali-Ela Rangers ends in a draw

The inaugural 'Battle of Hali Ela Rangers' between Hali-Ela Central College and Kandegedera Central College ended in a tame draw, at Hali-Ela recently.

The inaugural match was initiated by the Badulla District Cricket Association to promote cricket in the schools in and around Hali-Ela area.

Hali-Ela Central College, batting first, scored 225 and they made 140 in the second innings. Naleen Dammika and Amila Nalake scored half centuries in the first innings.

Kandegedera Central College made 154 in the first innings, but did well to force a draw when they made 132 for 5 at close of play.

Naleen Dammika of Hali-Ela Central College won the Best Batsman's award while Sudeeptha Weerasinghe also of Hali-Ela Central who captured 6 wickets for 10 runs was awarded the Best Bowler's trophy. Alankara de Silva of Kandegedera Central College was adjudged as the Man of the Match.
