Lewis hits 162 as Lucas lead Cornwall

Llewellyn Meggs with a six-wicket haul, a century from Rawle Lewis and half centuries by Wavell Hinds and Robert Samuels highlighted yesterday's final day of the County championships as Melbourne, Lucas and Middlesex gained first innings points over Surrey, Cornwall and St. Catherine C.C. respectively.

At Kensington Park:

Scores: Melbourne 272; Surrey 205.

Meggs captured six for 44 from 15 overs and Guyanese pacer Colin Stuart three for 69 off 13 overs to pilot Melbourne to first innings points over Surrey.

Resuming on their overnight 54 for two, Wavell Hinds, 43 overnight, added another 43 runs to his tally and along with Mario Ventura posted 130 runs for the third wicket before Ventura was caught behind by wicketkeeper Shane Ford off Meggs for 40. He hit one six and six fours from 64 balls.

Hinds was eventually leg before to Meggs for his team's top score of 86 which included two sixes and 13 fours from 90 balls, while Steve Wallace also chipped in with 20 as Surrey fell short of the target by 67 runs.

Captain Robert Haynes captured four wickets for 48 runs, while medium pacer Laurie Williams pocketed three for 25 off eight overs as Robert Samuels followed his first innings 92 with an unbeaten 51, hitting five sixes and one four from 83 balls. Aubrey Wollaston also got 34 and Donald Bennett 28 as Melbourne declared at 149 for nine, leaving Surrey to get 217 runs for victory.

Surrey reached 16 for two when play was finally called off after eight of the mandatory 15 overs were bowled.

At Alpart:

Scores: Cornwall 229 and 101 without loss (Carl Wright 69 not out, Krishana Edwards 26 not out); Lucas 379 for eight declared.

Rawle Lewis plundered 162 and Oneil Cruickshank 83 as they posted a solid 160 runs for the fifth wicket to rescue Lucas from their overnight 91 for four and to a 150 runs lead on first innings points over Cornwall.

Sheldon Gordon took two for 26, Anthony Andrews two for 49 and Cassius Burton two for 86.

At Kaiser:

Scores: Middlesex 410 for four declared; St. Catherine 249 (Randy Nelson 42, Milton Thomas 32; Pedro Collins 5 for 68, Fredrick Redwood 2 for 43) and 162 for six (Tony Powell 44, Delroy Taylor 41; Kenny Isaacs 2 for 31).

St. Catherine was forced to follow on after surrendering first innings points to Middlesex.

Points standings:

Melbourne, Lucas and Middlesex 3 points each, while Surrey, Cornwall and St. Catherine C.C. are with one point each.
