THE battle for zonal youth supremacy will resmue today as the
penultimate round of matches in the Power Gen inter-zone
Under-19 cricket series gets under way at three venues
throughout the country. Defending champions South, led by
national senior and West Indies youth player Daren Ganga, will
host Tobago at Wilson Road, Penal. After all first round matches
were abandoned because of rain, the champs registered convincing
victories over North East and North. Tobago, on the other hand,
suffered a humiliating loss against North but gave an improved
performance against South East, although they still went under
on first innings.
At Presentation College, Chaguanas, a keen contest is
anticipated between leaders North and Central.
The visitors, led by West Indies under-15 captain Zaheer Ali,
will be hoping for at least a first innings decision in order to
keep alive their chances to cop the coveted title. North will be
looking forward to another grand performance from national youth
allrounder Ricardo Paty.
The promising Queen's Park player has been in tremendous form
with both bat and ball and is currently the tournament's leading
wicket taker. Central, on the other hand, are a formidable bunch
and will have their main hopes on skipper Navin Chan, the
Windies youth wicket-keeper, national youth opener Andy Jackson
and spin twins Ritesh Samaroo and Kishore Lalchan.
In the other game South East will be at home to North East at
Cunjal Recreation ground, Barrackpore.
