The Sri Lanka Cricket Board in its endeavour to fall in line with the International Cricket Council (ICC) has formed a cricket committee comprising past Sri Lanka cricketers to advise them on cricket matters.

The high-powered committee comprises the two vice-presidents of the Cricket Board - Abu Fuard and Anuruddha Polonowita, the chief executive Dammika Ranatunga, secretary Saliya Ahangama, chairman of selectors and Sri Lanka team manager Duleep Mendis, Sri Lanka team captain Arjuna Ranatunga Sri Lanka's ICC match referee Ranjan Madugalle, Sri Lanka 'A' team manager Ranjit Fernando and Sri Lanka 'A' team coach Roy Dias.

One of the main shortcomings of the recent past was the lack of a proper advisory committee on cricket which led to the Cricket Board spending as much as Rs. four and a half a million on the England 'A' tour here without any players emerging as an outstanding future prospect. The selectors not given any clear guidelines or criteria to pick the teams exposed as many as 47 players.

Sri Lanka Cricket Board president Thilanga Sumathipala said that he would have monthly meetings with the cricket committee and seek their advise on all cricketing matters before the Executive committee takes a final decision.

The ICC too has an advisory cricket committee functioning with one of its former president's Sir Clyde Walcott as chairman.
