PAKISTAN v SOUTH AFRICA Wisden CricInfo staff - January 1, 1997
At Sharjah, April 16. South Africa won by eight wickets. Toss: Pakistan. South Africa cruised to another easy win. Both De Villiers and Matthews bowled superbly, finding movement off a pitch which had yielded nothing in earlier matches. Then Kallis, given an outing with Crookes as South Africa rested Cullinan and McMillan, picked up his first wickets in international cricket – starting with Inzamam-ul-Haq, the only Pakistani batsman who threatened to take command. Pakistan scored 188, a small total for Sharjah, when it was essential to boost their run-rate. Defending it, Sohail surprisingly held back Waqar Younis until Hudson and Kirsten had made a flying start. Hudson finished unbeaten on 94 from 86 balls. Man of the Match: C. R. Matthews. © Wisden CricInfo Ltd |
