Pakistan v South Africa Wisden CricInfo staff - January 1, 1997
Toss: South Africa. South Africa marked their Sharjah debut with a crushing win. Hudson and Kirsten gave them an ideal opening, with 115 in 17 overs; their strokeplay was sensible rather than extravagant, though Hudson pulled Waqar Younis for a remarkable six. Cullinan made capital with a maiden one-day international century, scoring 110 not out from 109 balls as South Africa equalled their biggest limited-overs total against a Test country. Pakistan started with a flurry but, once Aamir Sohail slashed to gully, dropped out of contention. A futile attempt to force the pace against accurate bowling and enthusiastic fielding saw five wickets fall in the first 15 overs. Aqid Javed scored a career-best 45 as he and Salim Malik played out time. Man of the Match: D. J. Cullinan. © Wisden CricInfo Ltd |
