Again, Kaluwitharana was the wild card, or wild horse, bolting out of the gate with 74 off 69 balls and leaving McGrath with the worst figures by any Australian at this level – one for 76. Sri Lanka were able to glide home with minimal risk; Kaluwitharana won his third match award and, a few days later, was named the outstanding player of the preliminary rounds.
